MASTER RESEARCH at the Institute of Sonology

Master of Music - Sonology 2021/2022

INTRODUCTION

I started a research at The Institute of Sonology after finishing the One-Year-Course provided by the Institute. The One-Year-Course provided me with the possibility to explore the versatile expertise the Institute has to offer, and consequently led me to hand in a research proposal for the Master of Music program at Sonology for the academic year of 2021/2022.

This research focusses on my realisation of Neo-Plastic music and space envisioned by Piet Mondriaan and his art circle De Stijl. Dutch electronic music pioneer Dick Raaijmakers was also concerned with the Neo-Plastic ideology of De Stijl. In 1994 Raaijmakers realised his composition Promenoir dedicated to Neo-Plastic music which was thoroughly described by Mondriaan in 1920. Mondriaan never realised his composition simply because the instruments and techniques were not invented yet, therefore he dedicated some of his innovative writings and ideas to the men of the future. In this research blog I will discuss and describe my problems and progression towards creating an environment and a composition along the guidelines of Neo-Plastic music and space.

BLOGPOST #1 ā€” November 2021

At the moment Iā€™m in my 2nd year of the master at The Institute of Sonology, the first year of my studies is already behind me. I realised I wanted to document and share my progression, since I will continue researching this subject matter after I graduate next year. This update will be a summation of my progress over the last year.
